6th graders learned Children's Day in Japan, and celebrated the day by singing "Koinobori" (carp stream) song and making a origami craft of a samurai hat.

I'm so proud of your accomplishment! Jazz Musician, Mr. Senri Oe visited our 6th grade class! He talked about how he chased his dream in New York. We also welcomed a Japanese exchange student, Shunsuke, for three days.
He is so brave to come to the U.S. by himself! Students from Hokuzan High School (Okinawa, Japan) visited NMS, and we enjoyed the interview activity, their great presentation, and the beautiful Okinawan dance. 6th grade class 8th grade class 7th grade class 北山高校のみなさん、ありがとうございました!

Japanese class celebrated the year-end with soba noodles! Japanese people eat soba noodles on New Year's Eve to wish for "long" and healthy life. "Soba" also means "to be aside", so we wish for great friendship! 6th grade class 8th grade class 7th grade class
Konnichwa! We had an honorable visit from the Consulate-General of Japan in Atlanta, and enjoyed their music workshop with Japanese traditional instruments. We practiced shime-daiko (small drums), o-daiko (medium size drum), fue (flute), and kane (hand bell). Thank you very much to Consulate Ohyama, Ms. Lora Schaeffer, and Mr. Bryan Sagliano for the wonderful opportunity! 6th grade class 8th grade class 7th grade class こんにちは!8th grade Japanese class presented their skit project in class. We had very special guests today in our class! The U.S. & Japan national bobsled team members visited our classes, and showed us their pictures and videos. Students also enjoyed armwrestling competition with them!
